FROM the "cockney sparrer" to the robin red breast the UK will be brushing up on its bird recognition skills this weekend as the RSPB goes for a record-breaking half a million participants in its annual Big Garden Birdwatch. A survey by the RSPB today showed that of those questioned, people in the North-West were the most "bird friendly" with 42% recognising the house sparrow as the most common bird.
