Fraud Fears Over Atms

POLICE have warned cashpoint customers to be vigilant after an eagle-eyed passerby foiled fraudsters using a device that steals PIN numbers. Eryl Jones removed a gadget used by thieves from a HSBC cashpoint machine in Ruthin - only to have it snatched from his grip by two men, who then raced off.

A MAJOR pounds 100m plan to build the tallest residential tower in Northern Europe in the heart of Liverpool's dockland could be given the go-ahead after all Maro Developments has re-submitted its Brunswick Quay skyscraper project to the city planning department just weeks after having it was controversially rejected. The company has already launched an appeal following the council's decision in January to refuse the go-ahead for its 50- storey glass tower.

Easter Getaway Grinds to a Halt

NORTH Wales holiday routes were choked with traffic yesterday as tourists headed for an Easter getaway. The A55 twice came to a standstill near Bangor, with police blaming the sheer volume of vehicles trying to funnel into a single lane across the Britannia Bridge.

You Can't Have Third Lane On 'Bottleneck' Bridge

WELSH transport minister Andrew Davies yesterday ruled out a third lane to ease traffic chaos on Anglesey's Britannia Bridge. The decision followed an expert analysis of the peak-hour congestion at the bottleneck, which forces traffic from the dual carriageway A55 into a single lane crossing of the Menai Strait.

Youths Arrested for Bursting Balloons Near Queen

POLICE last night defended a decision to arrest two teenagers for apparently bursting balloons as the Queen arrived for yesterday's ancient Maundy Service. Two 17-year-old youths were arrested on suspicion of using threatening behaviour as the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh arrived for the ancient ceremony at Wakefield Cathedral during which she presented 158 pensioners with purses containing the Maundy money.

Pension Shake-Up Calms Police Fears

A SHAKE-UP will prevent crime-fighting cash being swallowed up by the rising pensions of retired police officers, the Government confirmed yesterday. The Home Office announced it would pay pensions from a central pot from next year - as the Daily Post reported last month - after complaints that a huge slice of police budgets was 'dead money'.
