Wales: Hain Recalls Letter Bomb Terror
PETER Hain yesterday told how he was almost "blown to smithereens" by a letter bomb sent to assassinate him. The Welsh Secretary claimed South African security services attempted to use an explosive device to kill him in the early 1970s.
MORE than pounds 17,000 of taxpayers' money was spent on VIP tickets to last year's FA Cup Final by the Welsh Assembly Government as part of a pounds 35,000 hospitality package. The 16 first-class seats were part of a package to entertain business executives connected with investment plans in Wales.

DETECTIVES investigating the deaths of patients treated by North Wales-based GPHoward Martin have closed their files and no further action will be taken, it was revealed last night. Durham Constabulary confirmed that no action will be taken following a lengthy investigation into the deaths of patients treated by Dr Martin when he worked at Newton Aycliffe in County Durham.
PUBLIC health chiefs last night revealed behind-the-scenes plans to be put in place if Wales was hit by a bird flu pandemic. The spokesman for the National Public Health Service Chris Lines issued a warning that such a scenario remained a threat although said there was no evidence of any pandemic for now.

RELATIVES of a North Wales man killed in the Morecambe Bay helicopter tragedy were last night planning a service in his memory. Keith Smith, of Colwyn Bay, was one of seven men killed when a helicopter plunged into the Irish Sea on December 27.

Wales: Mp Hopes for More Resort Cash
WELSH enterprise minister Andrew Davies hopes the redevelopment of Rhyl seafront will spark new private investment in the resort. A pounds 1.4m revamp of the Foryd harbour is under way and the pounds 3.8m transformation of the promenade is also nearing completion.
