City Gps Ignore Deal On Evening Surgeries ; We Need Same Service As Rest of Country, Says Mersey Mp

FAMILY doctors in Liverpool are still refusing to open surgeries in the evenings and at weekends, despite signing a deal in return for higher pay. No GP practices in the city are yet offering appointments at times convenient to workers, three months after the British Medical Association bowed to government pressure for extended hours.

Strike Action Ends As New Deal Tabled

A DEAL to resolve the bitter fuel drivers' pay dispute was agreed last night, averting the threat of further strikes. The breakthrough came at the end of all-day talks between leaders of the Unite union and managers from haulage firms Hoyer and Suckling Transport.

Fuel Protest Again at Stanlow

AROUND 40 people last night staged a protest about the price of fuel outside Stanlow oil refinery. Cheshire Police said officers had been sent to Stanlow, in Ellesmere Port, to ensure the protest remained peaceful.

LIVERPOOL City Council is to restructure its top level of management it emerged last night - in a move that could see redundancies. The council's executive management team, made up of chief executive Colin Hilton, John Kelly (regeneration), Phil Halsall (finance and legal services), Stuart Smith (children's services), and Tony Hunter (community services) will be assigned new roles.

Luxury Flats Plan for Old Convent

AROUND pounds 7.5m is to be spent to restore a derelict former convent in South Liverpool into luxury apartments. The former Kelton Convent, Woodlands Road, Aigburth, will be converted into 14 apartments and 26 new flats will also be built in two new wings in the grounds to help pay for the restoration of the existing grade II listed buildings.

A MAN was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murdering a Liverpool dad in Kirkdale on Sunday. David Garrity, 32, was shot in the chest at around 3am as he cycled down an alley off Stanley Road.
