A 15-YEAR-OLD boy will appear in court this morning charged with the murder of another teenager at a Liverpool house party. The accused, from Old Swan, will appear at the city's Youth Court charged with the murder of 16-year-old Luke Howard.

A 14-year-old boy was stabbed to death and his teenage sister injured after they were attacked by a group of youths outside their home,. Shaquille Maitland- Smith was knifed in the stomach just yards from his house in Hackney, east London, shortly before midnight on Saturday night.

NATO said a roadside blast in southern Afghanistan has killed one of its soldiers. A statement by the military alliance says the soldier died of wounds sustained in the roadside bombing yesterday.
In Brief: Police Probe Lion Sighting
A HUNT was launched last night after police received reports of a lion being spotted in a local park. The animal was said to have been seen in Cavehill Park - only a short distance from Belfast Zoo - but no lions or tigers are missing. A spokesman said a number of witnesses had described the animal as a sandy coloured lion or large non-domestic cat.
City Prepares to Greet a Royal Navy Armada ; Liner Berth Opens Port to Warships

FALKLANDS War veteran HMS Intrepid was completed in 1967. She was saved from the scrapyard by the 1982 conflict. She will make her final voyage to the Mersey for scrapping by Leavesley Interational, in Bootle, as part of a new initiative.
Nimrod Families in Legal Battle
THE family of a Merseyside airman who died along with 13 others when their RAF Nimrod exploded in Afghanistan will take legal action against the Government, their barrister said last night. A writ will be served on Defence Secretary Des Browne today, accusing the Ministry of Defence of negligence, failing to minimise risk and a breach of the right to life in relation to the mid-air accident.
Murder Charge Man, 39, in Court
A MAN will appear in court today charged with murder. The body of Roy Waterfield, 56, was found by police on Wednesday in the Leicester Street area of Warrington. A postmortem concluded he had died of a stab wound. Mr Waterfield was discovered after officers picked up a 39- year- old man on Lovely Lane, Bewsey, who was later arrested on suspicion of murder.

CHILDREN behave badly in school because they are bored by constant testing, the new head of a teaching union said today. Andy Ballard, the incoming president of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, said over-testing "fulfils no useful function" and was taking the fun out of learning.
Camera to Keep Watch On Estuary Cockle Pickers ; Hi-Tech Move to Safeguard Harvesting
A HIGH-tech surveillance camera is being switched on today to prevent a repeat of the Morecambe Bay cockle picking tragedy on Wirral shores. The Environment Agency is beginning a new cockle licensing system on the Dee Estuary, which has previously seen up to 400 workers harvesting cockles in unsafe conditions.
Property Prices On the Slide for 11th Month
HOUSE prices fell for the 11th month in a row during August, figures showed today. The average home lost 0.9% of its value during the month, according to housing information group Hometrack.
