Happening: Taming the Tum Is Most People's Goal
IT'S official - of all body hang-ups, it's a wobbly stomach that torments us the most. A new survey from Zotrim, the all-natural weight loss aid, has found that a mighty 37% of UK men and women hate their "jelly belly" more than any other body bulge. The dreaded "muffin top" - the unsightly waistband overhang - was the next most hated, with 15%. "Thunder thighs" took 6% of the vote, while "bingo wings"
Happening: Is It Time to Give My Wardrobe a Jump Start? ; Fashion Victim
WITH neon, crop tops, harem pants, stonewashed jeans and paisley all hovering over the fashion horizon, there is so much to be scared of this spring/summer season, I am quaking in my Ugg boots. Already suffering from a fashion mojo crisis of hitherto never seen proportions, fuelled by a) shortage of money, b) turning 30 and c) lack of fashion role models since Kate Moss's look became accessible to anyone who can see over the counter at Topshop, I just do not need these sorts of fashion scares.
HIGH-FLYING architect Maggie Mullen has the cashflow and forecast figures for her pounds 95m building projects at her fingertips. But her grasp of personal finances is painfully vague.
Cool: Spending Is a Release Valve
MOTHER-OF-TWO Maggie Mullen, 37, is a partner at city centre architect firm, Austin-Smith: Lord. She had a frugal childhood and her spending became more lavish as she became more successful.
WHERE you and I might see a dirty old brooch and a broken string of pearls, Emma Embery sees a glittering necklace and a dress dripping with embellishments. The Liverpool-based designer sources vintage fabrics and jewellery from around Asia, Europe and the US, and transforms them into original new pieces.
Bargains All Year Round ; Fashion
THE January, 2009, sales will go down in history as a bit of a non-event. With so many stores insuring themselves against being lumbered with surplus credit crunch-induced stock, there were sales galore right through the Christmas shopping period. If you're savvy enough, however, every shopping trip can be like the first day of the old-school January sales. Update your wardrobe with these all-year-round bargains.

FORGET creamy foundations, stick formulations and powders, because the new buzzword in beauty is mineral makeup. Once the preserve of niche cosmetic companies, now the big beauty houses are all launching their own versions. Created from natural minerals instead of man-made chemicals, mineral makeup is said to be better for the skin and to give a more natural look. Some even claim you could sleep in your make-up!
SOME parties are special because they are lavish, and some parties are amazing because they are in historic venues, but Peter Price's surprise birthday party on Saturday night was special because of the fantastic selection of his closest friends who turned out. The bash was thrown for Peter at Bar Italia, on Castle Street, and from the early start and plentiful food and wine, to the very late finish - it was one of the most lovely memorable, chilled and fun occasions anyone could wish for.
What are you reading? Stars are Stars, by Kevin Sampson. I have an interest in Liverpool's literary geniuses. Where did you last eat out? The Gallery Bar and Grill, Formby.
HE WAS a straight and ascetic young man from a privileged background, who pulled bodies from the rubble when Liverpool burned in the Blitz. Later, in a life devoted to the Anglican Church, he realised that in faith we are all God's children.
IN THESE times of doom and gloom, it was good to feature a very positive news story for the region this week in the shape of the pounds 225m project planned for Chester Zoo. We revealed on our front page on Tuesday that the Zoo plans to become the "Eden Project of the North", re-creating an African rainforest complete with plants and animals within a bio-dome. The story piqued the interest of a number of readers. G Hall, of Wallasey, was among them. He wrote: "What fantastic news the Eden of ...
"A MOMENT'S thought could save a lifetime of heartache", so claims the bon mot on my calendar. As with so many of these bons mots, this one contains more than a grain of truth. So what do you think? Or, more bluntly, do you think? All too often, I hear people say: "I didn't think." We can all say that, usually after something has happened which might have turned out differently if only we had thought about it before. The world would be a better place if only everyone paused for thought before...
