Soccer Professor 'Wanted Cash' for Hillsborough Chat

A LIVERPOOL University footballing professor has been accused of "cashing in" on the Hillsborough disaster after he tried to charge hundreds of pounds for interviews on the anniversary of the tragedy. Academic Rogan Taylor told a Danish documentary maker he would only talk to them for 500 euros (pounds 450). The production company refused and have accused Taylor of "letting down the families of those that lost the lives".

MERSEYSIDE could lose out on more than pounds 117m in European grants becau se the Government turned down an offer from Brussels to extend a funding deadline. Cash-strapped regions were given extra time to claim investments to help them beat the recession.

RELATIVES of murdered teenager Michael Causer wept as the harrowing 999 call to get him help, following an alleged homophobic attack, was played in court. During the call, Mr Causer's friend Michael Binsteed screams: "I don't want him to die."

FORMER Tory leader Iain Ducan Smith has said the murder of Rhys Jones brought home the "casual savagery" of gang-related crime. Up to 50,000 teenagers in the UK are involved in gangs, a thinktank will warn this week in a call for a US-style zero tolerance policy towards ringleaders.

A MUSICIAN has given the newly unemployed a chance to get their own back - by sending a redundancy card. Henry Priestman, keyboard player for The Christians, is offering free greetings cards on his website, with messages such as "What do you suggest I do with the rest of my life?" and "R.E.D.U.N.D.A.N.T. spells M.I.S.E.R.Y".

MORE than 1,000 homes in Wirral lost power on Saturday evening. The power cut at 6pm affected properties in Willaston and Neston.

TWO teenagers have been shot in Norris Green, police confirmed yesterday. The youths, aged 15 and 18, were admitted to hospital just after 11pm on Saturday and told staff they had been attacked at around 9.45pm.

Kirwan Threatens Judicial Review

WIRRAL Council could face a judicial review if it approves the closure of libraries and other cultural facilities tonight. Independent councillor David Kirwan has been engaged by Wirral Residents Alliance to attempt legal action to quash the decision - should the full council meeting endorse it.
