THOUSANDS of Airbus workers went on strike at French factories of the European planemaker yesterday in protest against a restructuring plan that will see 10,000 jobs cut across Europe, including 4,300 in France and 800 on Deeside.

The shake-up, which will also involve the sale of some plants, is aimed at cutting costs after delays to Airbus' A380 superjumbo project which is running two years late because of production problems in France and Germany
