EMBATTLED Metropolitan police commissioner Sir Ian Blair last night won the backing of the prime minister, as criticism over his handling of the Stockwell Tube shooting intensified.

With Brazilian officials preparing to fly to the UK this week to question those investigating the circumstances of Jean Charles de Menezes' death, Downing Street said Tony Blair had full confidence in the Scotland Yard chief.
