BOUNCERS, former soldiers and ex-police officers are being hired to cover lessons by schools looking for "crowd control", a union conference heard yesterday.

Some schools appear to believe that being "stern and loud", or having a military background, is the only skill necessary to be a cover supervisor, according to Andrew Baisley, a secondary school maths teacher.
