EACH year a half-dozen of Alwyn Phillips' top-rated Texel rams are rounded up and trucked to Scotland for a medical procedure that borders on the surreal.

Once at Edinburgh's Scottish Agricultural College the sheep are lightly sedated, restrained in a special cradle and eased into a computed tomography - CT - scanner of the type familiar to human head injury and cancer victims.
