LDP IT IS encouraging, to say the least, to see the University of Liverpool pledging minimum bursaries of pounds 2,000 a year for around a third of all students, in order to help offset the impact of burdensome tuition fees.

Many people have expressed fears that the new fees, to be levied at the maximum pounds 9,000 a year by both Liverpool University and by Liverpool JMU, will deter students to such an extent that the finances of both universities, and the city itself, will be badly affected.
