AN INTERNATIONAL supermarket chain accused of spying on staff in Germany yesterday said its UK stores only installed cameras to catch criminals.

Lidl was accused last week by German magazine Stern of hiring detectives who installed surveillance cameras to monitor staff performance, find out how often they used the toilets and whether they had affairs with colleagues.
