SECONDARY school children will have to learn key dates in history under guidelines published yesterday.

The guidance, from exams watchdog the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), is designed to help teachers develop the chronological understanding of 11 to 14-year-olds who can then enjoy "an in-depth knowledge of the past".
