FIRST and foremost, I am a non-smoker and have no intention of ever taking up the habit, but I am sick and tired of these nanny state proposals by the government to ban smoking in all indoor public spaces.

I am not totally in favour of the ban on smoking in pubs (there should have been some compromises, such as smoking rooms away from bar staff and non-smoking customers) but I think to ban smoking in private members clubs is absolutely ludicrous. Members of private clubs should have the right to decide what can and cannot happen in them.
