IT'S the bubbling, trilling call that gets tome every spring; not perhaps the most striking of our migrants, but whimbrels are certainly amongst the most evocative.

No spring is complete without a trip out to the fields surrounding North Moss Lane, east of the Formby by-pass, where good numbers of this charming wader can be found from late April into May.
