Summary
WIRRAL council won a court order banning Harry Cross from taking his wife out of the country to Switzerland, where assisted suicide is legal.
But Mr Cross successfully challenged that injunction in the High Court, and the next day flew with his wife to Zurich, where she drank a lethal cocktail of barbiturates supplied by Dignitas, and died. Family Division judge Mr Justice Hedley ruled it was not the role of the family court to grant an order banning Mr and Mrs Cross from leaving the country, even though it was "undoubtedly" a criminal offence to arrange an assisted suicide.See the full content of this document
