A MOTORIST mowed down a pedestrian as he was trying to receive a text message on his mobile phone, a court heard yesterday.

James Hughes, 57, was struck with such force by Anthony Vincent's car that he was catapulted over roadside railings, Liverpool Crown Court was told.
