HOME Secretary Theresa May's plans to rely on emergency legislation to hold a suspected terrorist for longer than 14 days without charge are "totally unsatisfactory and ineffective" and justifying the legislation without prejudicing the rights of a suspect to a fair trial would be "almost impossible", MPs and peers said.
Instead, the Home Secretary should be given the power to extend pre-charge detention to 28 days for a three-month period in "exceptional circumstances", the Joint Committee on the Draft Detention of Terrorist Suspects said.See the full content of this document
