THE recent BBC series, Survivors, proved that not many remakes work. More so because the original 1970s series, from Dr Who creator Terry Nation, was one of the things that drew me to the power of television. The power to draw attention to issues.

To pose the great "what ifs?" An obvious route that led to Grange Hill, Brookside and Hollyoaks. Is it to the If ever there was a time for a thoughtful, analytical post-apocalyptic allegorical series, it is now. But what a disappointment.
