Summary
WHILE 'Will the last sheep please leave Wales' highest mountains' might create good headlines (Daily Post, Farm and Country, January 14) the article itself ignores the simple fact that hefted sheep are as integral to Snowdonia as are its mountains.
Regarding the core of article my first question would be, if CCW know from research that it is removing ewes that is required, then why the need for 'upturned hanging baskets' to control grazing in the first place? The reality is that montane vegetation to 150 described is confined to the very highest mountain tops of Snowdonia and always has been. Sheep grazing on these highly exposed areas is at an extremely low overall level and is confined to windless days of the year (and there aren't many of those at this altitude). Once again, these ecologists have failed to look at the whole picture and blamed the 'normal easy target' - our native Welsh Mountain sheep.See the full content of this document
