Crowell drove home a fierce left-footed drive from 20 yards to finally beat Azeri keeper Ruslan Majidov, who had made several good saves to keep his side in the hunt until the 85th-minute decider.

But the visitors had to complete the final half-hour of the match with only 10 men following the dismissal of Swansea defender Stuart Jones on his debut.
