THE Government has taken in nearly pounds 31.5bn in stamp duty in the first 10 years since Labour came to power, research has shown.

Financial adviser Grant Thornton said the revenue raised by stamp duty on residential property had increased markedly under Labour, soaring nearly eightfold from pounds 830m in 1997/98 to pounds 6.5bn in 2006/07.
