GORDON Brown yesterday insisted European nations were united to rebuild shattered confidence in the global economy as leaders meeting in Berlin agreed plans for reform of the international financial system.

At a press conference in the German capital, the Prime Minister repeated his call for a "grand bargain" among nations to come together to tackle the deepening economic recession.
