THE fate of eight Skelmersdale schools is to be decided at a public meeting today. The independent Schools Organisation Committee, meeting at County Hall,Preston, is to decide which of the town's primary schools should be merged to create three new super- schools.

The committee was called in after protesters lodged objections to Lancashire County Council's bid to halt falling pupil numbers. The proposals include merging one of Skelmersdale's oldest schools - Park County (formerly Barnes Road) withBrookfield.
