CHEAP alcohol from supermarkets and off-licences is fuelling drunkenness and violence among young people, according to research by the Centre for Public Health at Liverpool John Moores University published yesterday.

A study of 380 young people, aged between 18 and 35, has shown that more than half usually "pre-load" or drink at their own or a friend's home before leaving for a night's drinking in a town or city centre.
