THE latest round in the campaign against Liverpool's new Stanley Park stadium,by the self-styled Anfield Regeneration Action Committee, was skilfully,or fortunately timed. The group delivered its 10,000-signature petition against the plan to Liverpool Council's planning department within hours of our revelation yesterday that leading Merseyside economist Peter Stoney had concluded in a new report that the park was not the best option for the club.
These objections and findings have arrived very late in the day. Liverpool has already conducted an exhaustive public consultation process, which has demonstrated that, despite the petition,most of the Anfield community is in favour of the proposal.See the full content of this document
