THE great autumn tidy-up is always an ideal time to think about recycling organic matter to return it to the earth. If you're raking leaves off your lawn, for example, you can easily make leaf mould perfect for adding nutrients to your soil and adding to compost.

Also, you only have to have a few plastic bags with small holes in them for ventilation to house the leaves while they decompose, leaving you with a fertile heap in around 12-18 months. The bags should be around 3/4 full, the leaves sprinkled with water, then the bags tied at the top.
