HESWALL trio Ian Spencer, Michael Jones and Chris Sands all missed out at the final qualifying stage of the Open Championship, which starts at St Andrews on Thursday.

Spencer had a pair of 72s at Ladybank to finish 11 shots off the pace set by the winner Italian amateur Edoardo Molinari, who shot 67- 66. Australian John Wade (67-68) and Kenilworth amateur Robert Steele (67-69) were the other two to go throughout of the field of 96. Sands pulled out after a 78 in the first round at Lundin with a wrist injury he said had been troubling him for some time, and Jones also withdrew with an injury after opening with a 76 at Leven Links.
