NORTHERN Ireland secretary Peter Hain yesterday appealed for people in the province to 'judge me on my record' after an investigation which revealed he expressed antiunionist views before Labour came to power.

Mr Hain, who is also Welsh secretary, said that Northern Irish politics have been 'completely transformed' in the wake of the Good Friday Agreement and that his focus is on securing long-term peace.
