MERSEY MP George Howarth failed in an attempt to scrap the House of Lords altogether, to leave MPs to make Britain's laws alone.

The Labour backbencher tabled an amendment to the first of last night's votes, which would have removed the upper chamber altogether to create a 'unicameral' system.
