RUTHIN'S Hugh Hunter suffered a major dent to his hopes in the BTRDA Rally Championship after being forced to retire on the fourth stage through engine problems.

Heading to the fifth round, Hunter knew he needed a win to keep his championship hopes alive, and despite a fierce battle with leader Andrew Burton over the first three of nine special stages, was forced to retire his ex-Colin McRae Ford Focus WRC01 on the fourth stage.
