It was a sign of the times that high safety fences had been erected at Farrar Road as part of the effort to get the ground up to required standards to stage the home leg. A crowd of 5,181 packed into Farrar Road could hardly believe their eyes as Bangor took on the mighty Spaniards Atletico Madrid in the second round of the Cup Winners' Cup. Bangor City's team for the home game was: Dai Davies, Mark Cartwright, Phil Lunn, Garry Evans, Jerry Banks, Les Armor, Bruce Urquhart (Paul Whelan), Mark Palios, Ian McMullen (Viv Williams), Everton Williams, Neville Powell.
