In addition to being crippled by the Big Dig, bus operators in the city centre will have to suffer the closure of Castle Street on European Car Free Day, September 22, thanks to a council public relations stunt that contradictorily will adversely affect public transport users.
Despite the excuse offered that this will trial the proposed pedestrianisation of Castle Street, surely any temporary or permanent closure of a main traffic artery in the commercial quarter is unlikely to benefit the surrounding businesses, in contrast to the claimed benefits of pedestrianising shopping areasSee the full content of this document
