Summary
IN THE early 1990s, the Conservatives tried to obey the European Union requirements by fixing the exchange rate of the pound sterling to the euro, with disastrous effects, as many will remember, and members of the present government party often throw it up, but without mentioning the cause.
After abandoning the idea, the Tories took control of the economy and established a sound economic base before losing office.
