MERSEYSIDE Police Federation would like to publicly recognise the hard work of Merseyside Police Authority, and in particular the treasurer and the chief constable, in delivering a budget that maintains current police officer numbers in the face of such a poor Government settlement and with the threat of government capping, should the council tax precept rise above 5%.

The maintenance and future growth of current police officers' numbers has been the number one priority of Merseyside Police Federation. This is essential if the police service delivered to the public of Merseyside is to continue to improve, while police officers and their families are able to maintain a reasonable work/ life balance.
