I WAS shopping in Ruthin recently when I popped into a cafe and ordered some refreshments from a young waitress."Sorry,I don't speak Welsh" was her reply! I then asked her whether she had attended a local school, she said that shehad. As the teaching of Welsh is compulsory in all Welsh schools,I couldn't help wondering why the young waitress failed to understand my simple request for a cup of tea and a slice of cake?
