I WISH to commend David Powell for his sensitive coverage of the plight of Eileen Colbourne following the sad death of her partner of 34 year (Daily Post, February 10) and her feelings of being sidelined.
Irrespective of the precise circumstances surrounding the release of Mr Colbourne's body, there is a clear message to people who have been in long-term relationships without being married - that, in many circumstances, they have few, if indeed any, legal rights and safeguards. Incidentally, the concept of "common law marriage" was abolished in England and Wales as far back as 1753.See the full content of this document
