LJ Jenkins (Letters, 22 August) cites the fate of American warplanes buried under a Greenland glacier as evidence against global warming. Since they crashed on the glacier in 1942 these aeroplanes have been buried deep under the ice and carried towards the sea.

This is entirely to be expected. Glaciers are frozen rivers of ice which flow (as their names in Welsh, rhewlif or afon i, suggest) very slowly from their source in the mountains down towards the sea.
