IN HIS letter (Unable to find a solution, September 11) JF Lambert comments upon Frank Field's views on immigration and claims that the Labour Party, ". . . divides itself to create its own opposition to promote itself as the party of all policies." Labour has always been the social democratic party for all the people. It therefore attracts people from all walks of life and with diverse views. This has been perceived by the electorate and has resulted in three General Election victories since 1997.
There has always been robust discussion on policy issues within the Labour Party. Recently, I attended a meeting of my constituency party where agenda items were Eastern Europe and Georgia in particular, education, including school selection policies, and a call for measures to curb the reckless way banks gamble with their investors' money, resulting in the current financial crisis.
