Summary
THERE have been few more dramatic changes to the makeup of Liverpool's suburbs than the spread of the drinking culture in the last 35 years. Particularly in the south of the city, once-lively shopping areas now have a life of a different kind, as bars and restaurants line up next to each other, sometimes taking up whole blocks at a time.
Any number of factors lie behind this. Big supermarkets have killed off many of the little shops, and premises have become available.
