WANT a seven-seater, but can"t make up your mind between an estate car or people carrier? Deciding which has the most real- world appeal is difficult as both have their plus points.

From a practical point of view, the third-row seats in people carriers like Ford"s latest S-Max are much more useful than those in most conventional estate cars and can be occupied by adults - at least for short journeys.
