HAZARDOUS industrial waste is to be dumped in a Cheshire salt mine, after the Environment Agency issued its first permit yesterday.

Disused areas of Winsford salt mines have long been earmarked for the disposal of hazardous waste, but the controversial plan raised many objections and ended up going to a lengthy public inquiry.
