AWOMAN has escaped punishment for drinkdriving after it emerged that a civilian worker at a police station laid the charges.

Cheshire solicitor Nick Freeman said his client, Patricia Lumley, was acquitted after it was found the police employee, thought to be an office administrator, had no power to charge the woman.
