A SINGLE health board is to be created in North Wales after Edwina Hart announced plans for the second major shake-up of the Welsh NHS in five years.

The health minister told AMs yesterday she was now prepared to scrap the 22 local health boards for each county - set up by Labour in 2003 at a cost of pounds 15m - and replace them and hospital trusts with just seven regional authorities The One Wales Government's aim is to abolish the internal market within the Welsh NHS, ending the split between practitioners and commissioners, reduce bureaucracy and improve patient care.
