AMOTHER will attempt to swim Llyn Tegid, in Bala, to raise money for a charity that has helped her teenage son. For a second year, Sian Jones, from Denbigh, has organised the fundraiser, in aid of Diabetes UK Cymru. Sian knows the effect the disease can have on both individuals and entire families, as her 19-year-old son Arwel was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 13.

"It had a huge and devastating impact for Arwel and the whole family," she said. "Particularly as Arwel is an identical twin to Gareth, who does not have diabetes, so he often wondered 'Why me and not both of us.' "Many adjustments had to be made to our lives, such as meal times, eating regularly and amend our diet to avoid sugary foods, eating healthily, following the glycaemic index diet, in an attempt to maintain a good and healthy blood glucose level.
