MOOG'S synthesier (pronounced to rhyme with "vogue" not "droog") was the electronic music machine which had one of the greatest influences on modern music composition.

Moog was born in the Queens district of New York, in 1934. A bright boy, at the age of only 14 he had already built his first electronic instrument based on the theremin. This was invented in the 1920s by the Russian scientist Leon Theremin and had the ability to make sounds by altering electronic waves to produce timbre and volume. It was unable to maintain pitch - so apart from providing the eerie soundtracks for sci-fi films such as It Came From Outer Space and making a memorable contribution to the Beach Boys' Good Vibrations it never caught on.
