AT long last things seem to be looking up at the once mighty Orrell, who will probably compete as a genuine club again in Division 2 next season.

They already have a new clubhouse, which they rent from current owner Dave Whelan, and all the signs are that despite his gradual withdrawal from the scene, the club will receive a healthy subsidy from him for the next three years, plus the usual divisional handout from the RFU, meaning they will be competing with their rivals on a level financial playing field.
