AS A new parent, I'm already thinking ahead nervously to the day when my wife and I have to pick a school for our daughter. Will I be one of those mums and dads who peer over exam results and league tables and wonder what on earth "value added" means? Of course, I will. We all do.

So, naturally, I'mintrigued by what Messrs Blair and Howard have to say ab out parental choice and the idea that we are apparently ab out to get loads more of it.
