A LIVERPOOL soldier shot at dawn for cowardice is among 300 servicemen to be pardoned as part of a law that came into force last night.

William Watts, a 29-year-old father-of-three, from Dingle, was killed by the firing squad during the First World War after being accused of desertion. The new law is included in the Armed Forces Act which is due to gain Royal Assent.
